Gentle Pink Scarf

I have made this scarf to match this awesome hat. It is lightweight and soft and can be worn in the cool spring/autumn mornings or evenings. Both the hat and the scarf use the same combination of stitches - it is just the row starting that make the difference, so once you get used to it it is very easy to make them both.

This pattern uses US crochet terms.

Yarn: sport/fine (I have used 100% cotton, it took me around 100 gr of yarn).

Hook size: 3mm/C or D (hook size conversion chart)

Stitches used: ss, sc, hdc, dc, picot and special cross stitch (see the explanation below)

Finished size: 6 in(15 cm wide) and as long as you wish
Colors used: two contrast colors - I used pink for base color and white for borders and flowers

Abbreviations:

ss - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

yo - yarn over hook

st - stitch 

scs - special cross stitch (see the explanation below)
ch - chain

For the flowers:
mc - magic circle 
ch - chain
dc - double crochet

Special cross stitch (scs) :

Yo 2 times (3 loops on hook), insert the hook in the next st, yo, draw through the st, yo, pull through 2 loops(3 loops on hook), yo, skip 2 st, insert the hook in the 3rd st, yo, draw loop through st (5 loops on the hook), *yo, pull through 2 loops *, repeat * - * until only one loop left on hook, ch 2, yo, insert the hook in the middle of the half-cross made (see the second picture below), draw a loop through the st, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through 2 loops - only one loop left on hook. 

 

Pattern:

Row 1 and 2: Ch 47 (or any number of multiple 4 + 3), sc in second st from hook, sc till end of the row (46 st).

Row 3: ch 5, repeat the special cross stitch (see the explanation above) till the end of the row. When only one st left yo hook 3 times, insert the hook in the last st of the row, yo, draw a loop through st, *yo, pull through 2 loops, repeat * - * till only one loop left on hook. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in next st, *work 3 sc in the special cross stitch space, sc in the space between the special stitches*, repeat * - * till end of the row. Turn.

Repeat Row 3 and 4 till you reach the desired length.

Borders:

Join white and make a row with sc only. Turn

Second white row: * ch 4, ss in the first st of the chain (picot made), work 3 sc*, repeat * - *, end with picot in the last st.

Make the same for the other edge of the scarf.

Flowers: 
With pink color in mc work 6 sc, ss. Join white - repeat [ch 2, 2 dc in same st, ss in the next st] 6 times - for the 6 petals.
Create as many mini flowers as you wish :)
