White Summer Hat

This pattern is for a beautiful hat for spring/autumn days. It can be made all in white for wedding or just any other combination of colors depending on the style. The special stitch is a combination of easy stitches, it might look complex at first sight but it is actually quite easy once you get it. I have added a lot of photos and explanation on how to make it right.

And a matching scarf:

Edge:
Row 1: Ch 1, hdc in same st, hdc around, ss at the end.
Row 2: *Ch 4, ss in first ch (picot made), work 4 sc *, repeat * - *, ss at the end

Note: If you need to increase or decrease the crown make sure the number of stitches before starting the rows with special stitches in multiple of 4.

Pattern:
Row 1 : Start with MC and 10 dc in it.

Now increase with 10 dc spread evenly in the next 12 rows (120 stitches).

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in same st, 2 dc in every st, ss at end in ch 2(20 st).
Row 3: Ch 2, dc in same st, repeat *dc, 2 dc*, ss at end in ch 2(30 st).
Row 4: Ch 2, dc in same st, repeat *dc, dc, 2 dc*, ss at end in ch 2(40 st).
Row 5: Ch 2, dc in same st, repeat *dc, dc, dc, 2 dc*, ss at end in ch 2(50 st).
Row 6: Ch 2, dc in same st, repeat *dc, dc, dc, dc, 2 dc*, ss at end in ch 2(60 st).
Row 7: Ch 2, dc in same st, 1 dc in every st, 2dc in same st every 6th st, ss at end in ch 2(70 st).
Row 8: Ch 2, dc in same st, 1 dc in every st, 2dc in same st every 7th st, ss at end in ch 2(80 st).
Row 9: Ch 2, dc in same st, 1 dc in every st, 2dc in same st every 8th st, ss at end in ch 2 (90 st).
Row 10: Ch 2, dc in same st, 1 dc in every st, 2dc in same st every 9th st, ss at end in ch 2(100 st).
Row 11: Ch 2, dc in same st, 1 dc in every st, 2dc in same st every 10th st, ss at end in ch 2(110 st).
Row 12: Ch 2, dc in same st, 1 dc in every st, 2dc in same st every 11th st, ss at end in ch 2(120 st).

Now it is the time to measure the crown - if you need to make it bigger add some more rows, just make sure the number of the stitches in the last increasing row (the last crown row) is multiple of 4.

Row 13: Start with special cross stitch at the start of the row, repeat special cross stitch pattern till the end of the row (check the description above), ss at the end in the second chain of the ch 4.

Row 14: Ch 1, sc in same st, *3 sc in chain space (in every special stitch), 1 sc in the sc between the cross stitches *, repeat * - *, ss at the end in the ch 1.

Repeat row 13, 14 till you reach the desired lenght (I have repeated 8 times).

Edge:
Row 1: Ch 1, hdc in same st, hdc around, ss at the end.
Row 2: *Ch 4, ss in first ch (picot made), work 4 sc *, repeat * - *, ss at the end.

This is for the hat. Now you can add any embelishment or leave it simple. The pattern for the flower I have added can be found here.
