Bamboo Dishcloths

I found a little ball of multicolored bamboo yarn in my stash left from other projects and I did not know what to do with it until I started to crochet new dishcloths for my kitchen.

The bamboo yarn is perfect for the kitchen - it is natural, it is considered antibacterial, it absorbs better than cotton and it is very soft. The only disadvantage is it is more expensive than cotton unless you get it on discount (like I did).

So this ball of bamboo yarn is now my new very soft dishcloths and I am very happy with them both.

This pattern uses US crochet terms.

Yarn: 100% bamboo
Hook size: 3mm/C or D (hook size conversion chart)
Stitches used: ch, sc, dc
Finished size: 7.5x9in (19x23cm) for the big dishcloth, 6.5x6.5in(16x16cm) for the small one

ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet

The good thing with the dishcloths is you can test any new stitches or new yarn and get something useful at the end - like kitchen dishcloths, washcloths or simply new hotpads or coasters.

The stitch pattern used for these two dishcloths is very simple combination of basic stitches that creates amazing texture.

Big dishcloth (7.5x9in)

Row 1: Ch 66 (or any multiple of 4 + 2 as starting chain), sc in the second st from hook, sc in each ch (65st)

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in same st, * skip 3 st, (sc, 3dc) in same stitch*, repeat * - * till there are only 4 st left, skip 3 st, sc in the last st, ch2, turn.

Row 3: 3 dc in the first st, * skip 3 st, (sc, 3dc) in same st *, repeat * - * till there are only 4 st left, skip 3 st, sc in the last st, ch 2, turn.

Repeat Row 3 till you have the lenght you need.

Finishing row: Ch 2, dc in the same st, * sc in the next 3 st, dc*, repeat * - * till the end of the row, finish with dc.

Note: For the small dishcloth the pattern is the same but with the starting chain is 54ch.

  1. you stated bamboo yarn but who makes it? thanks

  2. This one is Turkish.
I don' t where you are but Ice Yarn ( have beautiful bamboo yarn as well and they ship everywhere

  3. How many skeins total does this take? How many gr/oz are ea. skein?

    1. The yarn was around 20gr (it was leftover from another project), one skein is 100gr.

It all depends on the yarn - this one is very thin (3mm/C/D hook )

The yarn can be replaced with cotton or some cotton combination. It is just so soft with bamboo.
